Thursday, 21 September 2017 coincides with 1 Muharram 1439 H, which is the new year of Hijri (Islamic calendar). Muharram is one of the respected holy months besides Dhu al-Qa’dah, Dzulhijjah and Rajab Mudhar. This month, Muslims are forbidden to fight/war. Because all deeds done on these four holy months will be multiplied. Whether it is a good deed, a multiplicity of rewards. And bad deeds, will get the sins doubled as well.
Therefore, we as Muslims are encouraged to make a lot of good deeds in these holy months. Particularly, in this ongoing month of Muharram there are some practices that can be done in the month of Muharram in order to achieve reward from Allah SWT: Fasting Sunnah Ashura. The most important fasting besides Ramadhan is during the month of Muharram. This is in accordance with the following hadith: “The most important fast after Ramadan is fasting in Allah’s month (ie) Muharram. While the most important prayer after fardhu prayer is night prayer “. (H.R. Muslim (11630).
The suggestion for fasting sunna Ashura held on 9th – 10th Muharram. The other good deed should be done in Muharrram is sponsors the orphans. Helping orphans do not need to wait for the month of Muharram. But if done on the day of Asyuro (10 Muharram), then God will raise its degree. “Whoever wipes his hands on the head of the orphan, on the day of Asyuro ‘(10th Muharram), then Allah will raise his degree,” “I and the man who endured the life of an orphan like these two fingers when in heaven.” He gestured with the forefinger and middle finger, and he separated it slightly. “(Narrated by Bukhari no 5304).
